Preventer Roadster  Hind
12 ½” x ½” x 1”
(Jeff Hampton)

First bump about ½” into the inside branch; just get the material upset into it and knock the corners back in.

Next I go ahead and put the outside heel caulk on in the straight.

Measure the overall length and off set the toe 5/8”

Turn the toe and mark your fullering on the outside, remember there is little to no taper on this branch unlike the traditional roadster

Turn the outside branch, fuller and punch your nails.

Now the inside branch, start by driving the inside corn of the heel back into it self, this will give more height and create the heel check.

Next with the outside of the inside branch on the anvil, drive the ground surface edge of the inside of the inside branch toward the foot surface, with each pass bring your hammer flat with the inside web of the branch. This should create the taper for the wedge and width of the branch.

Safe the inside toe with the round side of the hammer, I start over the horn then move down to the table of the anvil. Push over about 1/3 of the width of stock, but maintain the width on the foot surface.

Mark the fullering, there should be a wrinkle down the branch where your fullering will go. Once this is well marked it will serve as a guide for the set down of the branch.

Set the outside edge down either with a set hammer or the edge of the anvil. Once this is done reestablish the fullering.

Now turn the branch finish the fullering and punch.

Finish cleaning your lines up with a file and you’re done.
